Current Activities & Fundraising

It is exciting to see residents become involved in a variety of on-going activities, special events and fundraisers. It is this social interaction and involvement within our community that gives us continued zest for life.

We have an on-going activities program that is maintained through active resident volunteers and overseen by our Activities Director. Our Activities Director also coordinates special programs, performances, seminars, trips and events.

A monthly Newsletter, the “Friendship Banner” is produced to keep our residents informed of news and events happening within the DCH community.

Our ongoing weekly activities include:

  • Gentle Fitness Class
  • Line Dancing
  • Bowling
  • Bingo
  • Bridge
  • Progressive Euchre
  • Shuffleboard
  • Pool Tournaments
  • Craft/Stitch/Knit Club
  • Card Making Club
  • Dart Club
  • Movie Nights
  • Coffee Social
  • Bible Study
  • Worship Services
(Every other Sunday in our auditorium)

There are ample opportunities for residents to meet new people and join fellow residents at these activities.

Special Activities & Fundraising

We have special monthly events that vary depending on the season.

We usually have a monthly entertainment feature, like a guest singer, choir, band, or theatrical performance. There are special events planned specifically for resident involvement like: Hobby Shows, Fashion Shows and Car Rallies.

Annual activities are planned for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Canada Day and Remembrance Day. The Christmas and Valentine’s programs also include formal dinners in our Friendship Hall.

Trip excursions to interesting destinations are organized several times per year.

The Fall Bazaar and Spring Yard Sale are two of our major fundraisers and involve much volunteer participation each year.

Our fundraising efforts help to finance many of the internal programming needs for our seniors and allow us to enhance or beautify our common areas.

For the summer months of July and August, we take a break from running many of our on-going activities, which resume again in September.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are plenty of opportunities to become involved with the activities program at Durham Christian Homes. No matter your age, senior or junior, there are many opportunities where volunteers can really make a difference!

We invite students to share their talents with our residents. Students may also gain ‘community service’ hours by assisting at many of our functions: Bazaars, Yard Sales, Bingo, Fashion Shows, Strawberry Socials, High Tea events etc.

Our residents love to be entertained and spend time with the younger generation. If your school or service club would like to visit us, we’d love to hear from you.
