History of Our Community

Durham Christian Homes was established and incorporated in 1983 as an interdenominational organization to provide housing for seniors in Durham Region. We received permission in 1986 from The Ontario Ministry of Housing to build and operate a Seniors Residence.

The planning and financial support for the establishment of Durham Christian Homes as a Christian retirement residence was initiated with tremendous input and financial support from members of the local Reformed Churches.

Today we are very grateful for their determination and vision as we operate two residential towers and a large community centre.

Our first residence, Providence Place, was completed in 1988 and our second, Tekoa Manor was completed in 2002. The community center, Friendship Hall, built between the two towers, was completed in 2003.

Currently, these facilities are intended for seniors who can live independently.

The Board of Directors of Durham Christian Homes Inc. is the governing body of our organization. Board Members serve a three-year term and are elected by the membership of Durham Christian Homes Inc.

A separate Board of Directors, established under the title of ‘Glen Hill Terrace Residence Inc.’ was established in 2002 to work towards developing two additional facilities.

These additions will be built adjacent to our current towers. One building, to be named: ‘The Terrace’, will be a long-term care facility, and the other building will be an independent living residence to be named: ‘Heritage Place’.

As our ‘Glen Hill Terrace’ Board works towards bringing these projects to fruition we pray for God’s guiding hand throughout this planning process.
